The post office used 2 first day of issue special postmarks, the first depicts a flock of swifts /swallows in flight and the inscription "FIRST DAY OF ISSUE BRITISH PHILATELIC BUREAU EDINBURGH - 17 JAN 1989" and the second one shows a head of a Dipper reflected in a pond and has the inscription "FIRST DAY OF ISSUE SANDY, BEDFORDSHIRE - 17 JANUARY 1989".

These stamps were only issued in booklet form costing £1.90 per book. The post office used 2 first day of issue special postmarks, the first depicts a rose and the inscription "FIRST DAY OF ISSUE BRITISH PHILATELIC BUREAU EDINBURGH - 31 JAN 1989" and the second shows cupid ready to shoot an arrow and has the inscription "FIRST DAY OF ISSUE SALISBURY, WILTS - 31 JAN 1989".

The post office used 4 first day of issue special postmarks, the first shows two interlocking cogs (one large, one small) and the inscription "FIRST DAY OF ISSUE BRITISH PHILATELIC BUREAU EDINBURGH - 4 JULY 1989" and the second one shows a fan and has the inscription "FIRST DAY OF ISSUE BRITISH PHILATELIC BUREAU EDINBURGH - 25 JULY 1989".

The third postmark shows a section of a bridge (The Ironbridge Gorge, see the 19p stamp) and is inscribed "FIRST DAY OF ISSUE TELFORD - 4 JULY 1989" (Telford promotes itself as the birthplace of industry), whilst the 4th postmark an old building (The New Lanark Mill, an important milestone in the historical development of urban planning but now a hotel, see the 32p stamp) with the inscription "FIRST DAY OF ISSUE NEW LANARK - 25 JULY 1989"

The post office used 3 first day of issue special postmarks, the first depicts Ely Cathedral (needs confirmation) and the inscription "FIRST DAY OF ISSUE BRITISH PHILATELIC BUREAU EDINBURGH - 14 NOV 1989". The second one shows an angel and it has the inscription "FIRST DAY OF ISSUE DYDD CYHOEDDIAD CYNTAF BETHLEHEM LLANDEILO DYFED - 14 NOV 1989".

The final special postmark depicts the ceiling of Ely Cathedral (needs confirmation) and the inscription "FIRST DAY OF ISSUE ELY - 14 NOV 1989".

The Post Office issued a yearbook on the 14th Nov 1988 comprising of the following stamps: SG1419 to SG1422, SG1428 to SG1443 and SG1453 to SG1466 in a hardbound book complete with slip case and is fully illustrated in colour.

The Post Office also issued the 1989 Collectors Pack (CP1466a) on the 14th Nov 1989 which contained stamps from SG1419 to SG1422, SG1428 to SG1443 and SG1453 to SG1466.
