22nd GERMAN PHILATELIST'S DAY
(12th/16th Aug 1910)
This series of five different postcards was issued to commemorate two concurrent events: The 22nd German Philatelist's Day and the 14th Bundestag of German and Austrian Philatelic Associations. The event took place over 5 days and was hosted in the port city of Kiel, Schleswig-Holstein in Northern Germany on the Baltic coast.
The cards were published by Geliefert von Meisenbach Riffarth & Co. of Schöneberg in Berlin and each one features a 10Pf Germania 'DEUTSCHES REICH' pre-printed stamp. The only text on the front side is the publisher's name and the word "Postkarte". The reverse of each card depicts a well-known building in Kiel as well as a local issue Schleswig stamp and two German Empire coat of arms. In addition, the number 4 card, without pre-printed stamp but with the green text, can be found re-issued in 1990 with the title "1890-1990 100 Jahre Verein fur Briefmarken-Kunde Kiel von 1890 e.V."
There was a special cancel used in 1910 inscribed "KIEL | XXII | DEUTSCHER | PHILATEL.TAG " which can be seen on several of the cards below.
