Postage fees were increased from 1st Oct 1919 and this postcard was issued to account for the new rate. The new rate was 15Pf and applied to both domestic and international postcards until 5th May 1920. P116 and P117 were for long-distance domestic usage and have only German text.

There are two versions of this card: P116-I with four straight edges to the card and P116-II which has a serrated edge.

This first example of a P116 was cancelled with a regular CDS cancel in DÜSSELDORF on 22nd Mar 1920.

This example of a P116 postcard was cancelled in GOSLAR with a regular CDS cancel dated 9th Jul 1920. In addition to the pre-printed stamp there is a 15Pf Germania stamp for a total of 30Pf.

This example of a P116 postcard was cancelled in BAD SCHWARTAU on 6th Jun 1920 with a regular CDS cancel. An additional 15Pf stamp has been added for a total postage of 30Pf.

This example of a P116 postcard was cancelled in STEINHEIM with a regular CDS cancel dated 1st Sep 1920. In addition to the pre-printed stamp, there is a 15Pf Germania 'DEUTSCHES REICH' stamp that has been applied for a total of 30Pf.
