MICHEL PP81-C-5
GERMAN TRAFFIC EXHIBITION
This printed to private order postcard was published to commemorate the German Traffic Exhibition held in Munich in 1925 (exact date unknown but the special cancels described below were used from Jun to Oct 1925). The left-hand pane is inscribed "DEUTSCHE VERKEHRS-AUSSTELLUNG" - 'GERMAN TRAFFIC EXHIBITION'. The reverse of the card features an image of the God Hermes, the protector of travellers.
There are two versions of this card: PP81-C-5/01 and PP81-C-5/02. The second card, /02, is exactly the same as the first, with the exception that it has an additional inscription "Zeppelin-Eckener-Spende", not present on the /01.
There were three different special cancels related to this event. The first and second are similar machine cancels and they both feature an image of one of Hermes's wings. The first has the following inscription in capital letters "DEUTSCHE VERKEHRSALLSTELLUNG" above the wing and "MUNCHEN 1925-JUNI OKTOBER" below it. The second machine cancel has the same inscription, this time in lower case fraktur text all of which is below the wing. The third cancel is a circular cancel featuring an eagle in wavy lines.
In addition to this postcard there was at least one other card without a pre-printed stamp.
