The following card is one of several published to commemorate the 25th Anniversary of the Battle of Tannenberg (fought between Russia and Germany between 26th and 30th Aug 1914). Hindenburg was the architect of the German victory at the battle and his ghost is seen behind the memorial in the postcard below.

This Commemorative card features the ghost of Paul von Hindenburg standing behind the Tannenberg Memorial. The card was published by Heinz Hoffmann of Berlin and bears the inscription "Tannenbergfeier 27. August 1939. 1914-1939." This card has a self-adhesive 6Rpf Hindenburg Medallion stamp and has been cancelled with the special cancel used for the occasion inscribed "HOHENSTEIN (OSTPR) | Reichs- | Ehrenmal Tannenberg". This particular special cancel was used annually from 1936 until 1940
