THE DAY of the STAMP

line
This postcard was originally published to commemorate 'The Day of the Stamp' in 1940. There were several variations of this postcard e.g. 1941 P241 . The first, P289, was published to commemorate stamp day on 7th Jan 1940. This version is easily identifiable by the inscription 'Tag der Briefmarke 7. Januar 1940.', just below the image of the postman.

There were two designs of special cancellation used on 6th Jan as well as on 'Stamp Day' the 7th Jan 1940:

The first special cancel features a postman blowing his horn with a whip in his left hand. To his right is the logo of the R.d.P (Reichsbund der Philatelisten) and to his left is a ribbon with the date '7.1.1940'. Below the postman is the inscription 'Tag der Briefmarke'. This cancel was used in 29 Cities as follows:
BERLIN, BREMEN, BRESLAU, DANZIG, ERFURT, FRANKFURT (MAIN), FRANKFURT (ODER), GMUNDEN, GÖβNITZ, GREIZ, HALLE, HAMBURG, HANNOVER, KASSEL, KIEL, LEIPZIG, LINZ(DONAU), MANNHEIM, MÜNCHEN, NÜRNBERG, POSEN, REICHENBERG, STETTIN, STUTTGART, SUWALKI, TROPPAU, WEIMAR, WIEN and WIESBADEN.

The second special cancel features an image of a Michel 714 'REINTEGRATION of DANZIG' stamp with a steel helmet, sword and 'WHW' abbreviation below it. To the left of this image is a 'WHW' Swastika in gear logo, to the right the date '7.1 | 1940' and below it the inscription 'Tag der Briefmarke'. This cancel was used in the following 14 cities:
BERLIN, BOCHUM, DRESDEN, GERA, HALLE, HAMBURG, HANNOVER, KASSEL, KATTTOWITZ, LODSCH, MANNHEIM, MEMEL, STETTIN and STUTTGART.

Of course these cards also exist with other cancellations that are not related to the actual Day of the Stamp.
