OFFICIAL P312/01

This postcard features a character called 'Kohlenklau' or 'The Coal Thief' which was used by the Germans much as the Allies used the Squander Bug, to raise awareness of the waste of scarce war resources. Kohlenklau appears on P311, P312/01 and P312/02. The message is the same on P311 and P312/01 but differs slightly with P312/02.

Type 1 cards are inscribed "Faβt Kohlenklau! Verderbt dem Kohlenklau den Spaβ und spart mit kohle, Strom und Gas", which translates as 'Stop the coal thief! Spoil the coal thief's fun and save coal, electricity and gas'.
