GERMAN EMPIRE
OFFICIAL POSTCARDS
Please note the following for this website. Official Postcards are defined as:
1. Postcards of the German Empire issued by the Official German postal Authority, from 1873 until 1945.
2. Postcards that were generally available throughout the entire country and have a pre-printed (Indicia) stamp to cover the cost of postage.
The vast majority of official postcards have no printing on the reverse side so no image of the reverse side is provided, except in the few instances where there was something printed on the reverse of the card.
P212
(POSTCARD)
Issued: Jul thru Nov 1931, special postcard issued to raise funds for the German Welfare Fund. The card is very similar to the previous Welfare Fund postcard,P210, only this time the value stamp features Dresden and not Aachen and the design of the border running around the edge of the card is also different. There were also two versions of this card: P212-I using copperplate printing and P212-II which used a 'Deep Pressure' technique. The inscription on the Type 'I' is much sharper and clearer than that on the type 'II'.
There were two special handstamps also used, the first inscribed "International Hygiene Ausstellung, Dresden" is fairly common and the other inscribed "DRESDEN/AUSSTELLUNG" is less common.
A P212 must have the following characteristics:
(1) 8Pf Deutsche Nothilfe pre-printed stamp featuring Dresden.
