The Deutsche Post service was limited to the district towns. Mail that was destined for smaller towns and villages was delivered by the special institutions established for that purpose. These institutions levied an additional postage charge.

District posts existed in Warsaw, Sosnowice, Zawierchie, Czenstochau and Lodz.

--- SOSNOWICE CITY POST OFFICE ---

Published during the German occupation, with pre-printed Russian currency stamp. The German Post in Poland did not deal with the transport and distribution of local mail. Rather, this was left to local institutions, who levied their fees for this. The use of own postage stamps was initially banned by the German administrative authorities (February), but later allowed until the end of June.

MICHEL P1-I
(5 KOP)

Issued 19th Feb 1916 with a pre-printed 5 KOP stamp and measuring 140 x 90mm. Inscribed "Postkarte - Pocztowka" directly above the vertical dividing line.
