These stamps were used to collect delivery fees in rural areas. They were glued to the reverse of the mailed item and were initially hand cancelled. Later on box cancels or long cancels were used. Oval cancels are known to exist that were favour cancels used only for collectors in Krakow.

There are presentation cards that feature this stamp alone as well all 4 stamps in the series on a single card.
