Michel 681
"Romania's accession to the 'Triple Pact'"

Issued 1st Dec 1940. This stamp was printed photogravure on watermarked 7 paper, perf K14¼:13¾. This stamp was issued to commemorate Romania's joining of the Triple Alliance formed by Germany, Japan and Italy. Interestingly there is no mention of Japan on the stamp (it only shows Rome and Berlin) eventhough Japan was a member of the Triple Alliance.

This stamp also featured Corneliu Zelea Codreanu and the image on the right is likely the photograph used in the design of the stamp.
