The following example of a P50-II has an interesting cancel. The card was cancelled using a KAIS. DEUTSCHE MARINE SCHIFFSPOST No. 33 Cancellation dated 9th Jul 1901 and was destined for a Doctor C. Apstein in Kiel. The reverse has the name of the ship on which the cancellation was applied "The S.M.S Sachsen". The lack of a meaningful message leads to the conclusion that this was likely a philatelic item sent to the doctor to add to his collection.
S.M.S Sachsen was launched on 21st Jul 1877 and was used mainly in a coastal defence role against the French and Russians. Just after the card below was posted the ship accidentally rammed and sank the 'Aviso Wacht'. The following year, in 1902 she was placed in reserve and finally scrapped in 1919 following the defeat of Germany after the First world War.
