NAZI GERMANY
FIRST POSTAL EXHIBITION
GERMAN RED CROSS
(3rd/4th Aug 1940)

line
Published to commemorate the 1st Postal Exhibition of the German Red Cross held on 3rd and 4th Aug 1940 in Berlin. There are two postcards with identical designs, the only difference is that one has a 3Rpf (brown) and the other has a 6Rpf (green) pre-printed Hindenburg Medallion stamp.

The image on the front of the card is a rather dramatic German Red Cross Eagle shielding a wounded soldier. There are two inscriptions "Dieser Schild | deckt unsere | wunden Kämpfer" - 'This shield protects our wounded soldier' and "Stärkt das Deutsche Rote Kreuz!" - 'Strengthen the German Red Cross!'

The reverse side has the inscription "Sonderpostkarte | der | 1. Kdf.=Postwertzeicher=Ausstellung | für das Deutsche Rote Kreuz / Berlin | 3. und 4. August 1940".

There was also a special cancel inscribed 'BERLIN C2 | 1.Postwertzeichen-Ausstellung | für das Deutsche Rote Kreuz' which was only used on the 3rd and 4th Aug.
