Issued: 8th Mar 1940. Polish stamps with black surcharge overprint from the Vienna Gouvernement Printing Office. Polish stamps with black surcharge overprint, designed by Chrostowsky on sheets (10x10), Perf K12½x12¾. The original stamp was to be surcharged using a rubber plate (Type I) but this was later abandoned in favour of a metal plate (Type II). Type I surcharges have sharper edges and are dull black whereas Type II have squashed edges and are shiny.
