Ostland Stamps of 1941

Ostand is the name given to the region that consisted of Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania and Belo Russia. Local stamps (or overprinted Soviet Union stamps) were used in these areas for a short while after the Germans invaded, but they were soon replaced by regular German stamps overprinted 'OSTLAND' issued from 4th Nov 1941.

The Reich Commissariat Ostland was established on the 25th June 1941 following Germany's invasion of Russia on 22nd June 1941 (Operation Barbarossa) and was dissolved early in 1945 as the Russians pushed the German Army out of most of North Eastern Europe.
