"Birth Centenary of King Carol I"

Issued 10th Apr 1939. This stamp measures 28.5 x 33.5mm and was printed photogravure on watermarked 7 paper, perf K13¾:13½. This stamp features King Carol I and Queen Elisabeth. Pauline Elisabeth Ottilie Luise of Wied (29th Dec 1843 to 2nd Mar 1916) was the Queen of Romania as the wife of King Carol I, she is also widely known by her literary name of Carmen Sylva.

King Carol I (20th Apr 1839 – 10th Oct 1914) was born Prince Karl of Hohenzollern-Sigmaringen and was the King of Romania from 1866 to 1914.
