GERMAN COLONIES
KAROLINEN
STAMPS
1899

The German post in the Caroline Islands began on 12th October 1899 with overprinted German standard Empire issue stamps, Michel 45 to 50.

The islands are located in the South Pacific encompassing the island groups of Palau and Truk as well as Ponape, Yap and Kusaie. The islands bordered on the German colony of New Guinea in the south to the Marianas Islands to the north and as far as the Marshall Islands to the east. During the Second World War the Japanese took over control of the islands.
