FRENCH SECTOR in MOROCCO

The post offices in the French sector were all closed at the outbreak of the war. Marrakesch was closed on 1st Aug 1914, Casablanka and Rabat were closed the following day on 2nd Aug 1914.

INTERNATIONAL SECTOR in MOROCCO

The post office at Tanger in the International sector remained open for a short period until 14th Aug 1914 when it was closed down.

SPANISH SECTOR in MOROCCO

The post offices in the Spanish sector remained open after the closure of those in the French and International sectors.

Mail sent from Morocco (Casablanca, Larasch, Tanger and Saffi) to Germany, that passed through the censor was stamped with a 4 line script reading 'Sendung beim Postamt Bahnhof | Antwerpen vorgefunden, Zur | Beförderung freigegeben | Postamt 1 Aachen' translated as 'Mail found at the post office Antwerp. Released for transportation. Post Office 1, Aachen'.
