1901

German possession since 7th Aug 1884 with the Post Office starting on 17th July 1888.

German Southwest Africa, now the area occupied by Namibia, is located on the southwest coast of Africa. The postal network started in July 1888 and almost 100 post offices were created up until the First World War. German Southwest Africa was handed over to the South African Union on the 9th July 1915.

Stamp (1) above is cancelled with an early "SWAKOPMUND" CDS cancel in use from 30th May 1895 until 22nd Oct 1904.
Stamp (2) has a later version "WINDHUK DSWA" cancel with the later spelling, used from Jan 1906 until 12th May 1915.
Stamp (3) has a version of the "SWAKOPMUND DSWA" cancel, (could be the earlier version or the 'a' version) used from 23rd Oct 1904 until Dec 1905 (early version) or from 2nd Oct 1905 until 24th Dec 1914 ('a' version).
Stamp (4) has a later version "GOCHAS DSWA" cancel used from 30th Jan 1906 until 31st Mar 1915.

Stamp (5) has another "WINDHOEK" cancel, this time the earlier version with the orginal "WINDHOEK spelling that was used from 1st Jun 1900 until 31st Aug 1903. The date isn't fully visible but is likely Jul 1901.
