1901

German possession since 7th Aug 1884 with the Post Office starting on 17th July 1888.

German Southwest Africa, now the area occupied by Namibia, is located on the southwest coast of Africa. The postal network started in July 1888 and almost 100 post offices were created up until the First World War. German Southwest Africa was handed over to the South African Union on the 9th July 1915.

Stamp (1) has the earliest of four possible "LÜDERITZBUCHT" cancel which was valid from 12th Nov 1895 until 12th Aug 1906.
Stamp (3) has the only cancel issued in "KUB" which was valid from the middle of Oct 1905 until 27th Apr 1915.
Stamp (4) has the first of two possible "KARIBIB DSWA" cancels, this one valid from 1st Jul 1900 until Jan 1911.

Stamp (5) has a "KEETMANSHOOP DSWA a" cancel which was valid from the end of Jan 1911 until 19th Apr 1915.
Stamp (6) has a crisp "SWAKOPMUNDE DSWA" cancel. This is the last "SWAKOPMUND" cancel and was used from Dec 1905 until 24th Dec 1914.
