1901

German possession since 7th Aug 1884 with the Post Office starting on 17th July 1888.

German Southwest Africa, now the area occupied by Namibia, is located on the southwest coast of Africa. The postal network started in July 1888 and almost 100 post offices were created up until the First World War. German Southwest Africa was handed over to the South African Union on the 9th July 1915.

Issued: Jan 1901: Regular issue Imperial Yacht. Michel 11 to 19 Typography (10x10), Perf 15x15½. Michel 20 to 23 engraved (4x5), without watermark, Perf 15½ or 15¼.

Stamp (2) is cancelled with the first fo three :SWAKOPMUND DSWA" cancels, this one in use from 23rd Oct 1904 until Dec 1905.
Stamp (4) also has a "SWAKOPMUND DSWA" cancel, this is the third type and was used from Dec 1905 until 24th Dec 1914.
