GERMAN COLONIES
TOGO
POST OFFICES
The official opening date of some post offices does not always reflect the actual opening date which can sometimes deviate due to the local conditions (Togo is a very long strip of land stretching inland from a small coast, most of the interior consisting of mountainous terrain and dense jungle). In addition the dates listed below for individual cancels should be considered as the earliest known date of use, and may not reflect the actual first date of use.
For certain post office cancels listed below there is a note about the colour of the cancellation, these notes represent a colour change that occurred for a long period of time and not just by chance or for a short period. Errors are also noted where a year is missing or an incorrect date was used (this sometimes happened at the beginning of a year when the stamp was inadvertently left at the previous years' setting).
