King George VI - Scenes

Issued 1st Apr 1938. Recess printed by Waterlow, perf 12½ on watermarked Multi Script CA paper. This same design was used on the earlier King George V issue of 1932 as well as the 1955 Queen Elizabeth II issue. The only difference being the monarch's portraits, King George V and VI both face to the left, whereas Queen Elizabeth II faces to the right. The design is based on a photograph by the Resident Commissioner of Ngamiland (present day Botswana).
