"Mahrisch Ostrau - Moravská Ostrava"
Issued 29th July 1939 to 1942. Designed by Silovsky, perf L12½.
This stamp features Moravská Ostrava, a city in the north-east of Czechoslovakia, and the capital of the Moravian-Silesian Region. It is 15 km from the border with Poland. Ostrava is renowned for its position at the heart of a major coalfield and an important industrial centre. It was previously known as the country's "steel heart" thanks to its status as a coal-mining and metallurgical centre.
