"INLAND REVENUE"

Issued 1902 to 1904. These stamps were used by provincial revenue officals to and from Head Office. These stamps were also used by the London Post Office for foreign mail. Overprinted "I.R. | OFFICIAL". There are two types of overprint, Type O1 where there is no space between the 'I.' and the 'R.', and Type O2 where there is a space between the 'I.' and the 'R.'. The Type O2 is also larger and bolder than the Type O1 overprint.

Issued 1902 to 1903. Overprinted "O.W. | OFFICIAL". These overprinted stamps were issued to head and Local offices in London and to branch offices in Birmingham, Bristol, Edingburgh, Glasgow, Leeds, Liverpool, Manchester and Southampton. The overprints on the 2d and higher denominations were created after 1902, the 2d being used for registration fees and the rest for overseas mail.
