7th Jan 1940 - There were 14 City postmarks used to commemorate the Day of the Stamp in 1940 that had a helmet, bayonet and WHW design with the date 7.1.1940. The cities that used this postmark are as follows: BERLIN, BOCHUM, DRESDEN, GERA, HALLE, HAMBURG, HANNOVER, KASSEL, KATTOWITZ, LODSCH, MANNHEIM, MEMAL, STETTIN and STUTTGART.

7th Jan 1940 - There were 29 City postmarks used to commemorate the Day of the Stamp in 1940 that had an alternative design that featured a postal coachman complete with whip and bugle and had the same 7.1.1940 date stamp. These cities were as follows: BERLIN (NW40, C2 and W8), BREMEN, BRESLAU, DANZIG, ERFURT, FRANKFURT (MAIN), FRANKFURT (ODER), GMUNDEN, GÖΒNITZ, GREIZ, HALLE, HAMBURG, HANNOVER, KASSEL, KIEL, LEIPZIG, LINZ (DONAU), MANNHEIM, MÜNCHEN, NÜRNBERG, POSEN, REICHENBERG, STETTIN, STUTTGART, SUWALKI, TROPPAU, WEIMAR, WIEN and WIESBADEN.

20th and 21st January 1940. A special cancel was available in 6 cities as follows: FREIBURG, HEIDELBERG, KARLSRUHE, MANNHEIM, PFORZHEIM and RASTATT. There was also a special slogan postmark inscribed "Mainfränkischer Opfertag 20.-21.1.1940"

COMMEMORATING HITLER's 51st BIRTHDAY

10th April 1940 - This special postmark was issued to celebrate Hitler's 51st Birthday on April 20th 1940. The postmark depicts an iron cross with the words "Geburtstag des führers" across it. To the left of the cross is a Sword, Swastika and oak leave cluster representing the military and to the right is a hammer, a swastika and crops depicting industry and agriculture. This postmark was used in BERLIN, DANZIG, HAMBURG, KÖLN, MÜNCHEN, NÜRNBRG, POSEN and WIEN.

This isn't a great transaltion but it's the best I have.

8th July 1940 - This postmark has a city cancel for Frnakfurt (Main) dated 8.7.40 and the slogan "stadt des deutschen handwerks" - 'City of German Craft'. There is also another advertising postmark advising people to "Post travelers checks".

COMMEMORATING 50 YEARS of
HELGOLAND BELONGING to GERMANY

9th August 1940 - Helgoland is a small group of islands in the North Sea that have at various times been under Danish, British and German control. The islands were ceeded to the British in 1814 following the abdication of Napoleon. In 1890 the British passed control of the islands to Germany following the Treaty of Heligoland-Zanzibar. This special postmark was issued to celebrate 50 years of Helgoland belonging to Germany from 1890 to 1940.

17th/18th August 1940 - These postmarks were inscribed "Kriegshilfswerk für das deutsche rote kreuz" - 'War aid for the German Red Cross' and were available in four cities: KRAKAU, LUBLIN, RADOM and WARSCHAU.

Slogan postmark No.2 is inscribed "Das Deutsche Rote Kreuz helfer in krieg und frieden hilf mit!" - 'The German Red Cross helper in war and peace help!'

30th August 1940 - This postmark was used in Wiesbaden on 30th August 1940 and is inscribed "waffenstillstandskommission" - "Armistice Commission'

The German Armistice Commission (DWStK) was a political administrative body based in Wiesbaden, which existed from 1940 to line . Its function was to exercise the task resulting from the Franco-German truce of 25 June 1940 of supervising compliance with the ceasefire conditions imposed on France, especially in military terms.

50th ANNIV of DIPHTHERIA-SERUM

26th November 1940 - In 1901 Emil Adolf von Behring (1854 to 1917) a German Physiologist received the Nobel Prize for Medicine for his work in developing a diptheria antitoxin, the main cause of child mortality at the time.These two special postmarks were issued to commemorate the 50th Anniversary of his discovery. One of the postmarks is from Marburg where he was the Professor of Hygienics at the University of Marburg and where he eventually died. The other postmark is from Leverkusen.
