1911
German post offices in Morocco existed from the 20th Dec 1899 until the 5th Aug 1914 in the French area, until the 12th June 1919 in the Spanish area and until 19th Aug 1919 in Tanger.
The following towns had post offices: Tanger, Alkassar, Arsila, Asimmur, Cassablanca, Fez, Fez-Mellah, Larache, Marrakesch, Mazagan, Meknes, Magadar, Rabat, Saffi and Tetuan.
Alkassar, Arsila, Larache and Tetuan opened in 1912 are were situated in the Spanish area.Tanger was considered an independent area and all other towns were in the French Protectorate.
True Moroccan forerunners only exist cancelled from 1893 from ships of the Woerman Lines, where representatives aboard these ships were entitled to issue German Empire stamps. Letters cancelled on board can only be distinguished by seapost cancels with arrival or sender notations.
On 20th Dec 1899 the first Moroccan Foreign Post Office was opened in Tanger and had stamps issued bearing the country name from day one. Initially the German Post Offices only handled mail transiting along the coast, all internal mail was handled by private companies.
