Kotor
Stamps of 1944
Kotor is located at the southeastern end of the bay of kotor in Montenegro. Up until 1918 it was part of the Austro-Hungarian Empire but was annexed to Yugoslavia after the end of the war in 1918. In April 1941 the Italian army invaded and subsequently occupied Jugoslavia so Kotor fell under Italian control until 1943.
In the area of Boka Kotorska (Bay of Kotorska) the German military administration established its own post office in October 1943.
Prior to issuing its own stamps the stamps of Montenegro were initially used.
Of all the editions of Kotor, no verifiable genuine legitimate letters are known to exit to this day! Many stamps are in circulation with imprint and stamp forgeries, genuine examples need to validated by an expert.
