At the begining of 1943 the German Army had taken complete control over the entire Adriatic coastline. On 9th Sep 1943 a Slovakian provisional administration was set up by the German military administration with the aim of providing civilian postal services. Italian stamps had been in use since the Italian invasion in May 1941 and they remained valid even with the introduction of new issues.
