Ordinary and chalk-surfaced paper can be differentiated with practise. The chalk-surfaced paper is smoother to the touch and exhibits a sheen when examined in the light. Traces of paper fibres are more evident on ordinary paper.
Thin striated paper is considerably thinner than normal paper and the watermark is much easier to see.
