The post office issued 4 special postmarks to accompany this issue. The first is a circular cancel showing a set of railway 'points' and inscribed "FIRST DAY OF ISSUE PHILATELIC BUREAU EDINBURGH - 13 AUG 75".

The remaining 3 postmarks are identical rectangular cancels in the guise of train tickets. The first is "DARLINGTON CO DURHAM - FIRST DAY OF ISSUE - 15 AUG 1975", The second is inscribed "SHILDON CO DURHAM - FIRST DAY OF ISSUE - 15 AUG 1975" and the final cancels reads "STOCKTON ON TEES CLEVELAND - FIRST DAY OF ISSUE - 15 AUG 1975".
