On 15th March 1939 German troops occupied the city of Mährisch-Ostrau. Existing Czechoslovak stamps were used either unchanged or with 'Wir Sind Frei!' overprints until the Protectorates own stamps were issued. They were available at the post office for their original value and covers are known to exist with these stamps.
