My Slovakia Stamps of 1939

line The Slovak part of Czechoslovakia declared itself independent on March 14, 1939 and immediately signed a guarantee with Germany guaranteeing Slovakian independence, in effect making Slovakia a "protectorate". With the occupation of the Slovakian territory by Soviet troops in the summer of 1944, the Czechoslovak administration was restored. line

Issued 21st Mar to 1st Apr 1939. Czechoslovakian stamps from 1928 to 1939 overprinted 'Slovenský Štát 1939' in red or blue. Various perf, either 10, 12½ or 12x12½. Watermarked 'Double-Barred Cross'. High quality counterfeit overprints exist.

Issued 1st Apr 1939. Printed on unwatermarked paper, imperforate. This set differs from later sets Michel 54X to 65X and Michel 55Y to 66Y as the inscription for this set is "Československa" overprinted '1939 / SLOVENSKY ŠTÁT' whereas the later two sets are inscribed 'SLOVENSKA POSTA'.
