NAZI GERMANY
OTHER POSTCARDS
1934

line
The 1934 postcard page has now been split into four separate pages as it was beginning to get unwieldy. All 1934 Official postcards are now on this page. Official postcards are cards that were issued by the Reich’s post office, had pre-printed (indicia) stamps and were widely available throughout German towns and cities.

Secondly Printed to Private Order postcards are postcards that were generally issued by entities that were advertising an event or commemorating an anniversary, and also had pre-printed stamps, but were not widely available throughout Germany (most were only available at the event they were commemorating).

Thirdly Other postcards are postcards that fall into the same general category as printed to private order however they do not have pre-printed stamps.

Finally, Miscellaneous postcards is where you will find postcards that do not fit into the first three categories (i.e. they are not official, they do not have pre-printed stamps, and they do not commemorate an event).

The "FRONT' EXHIBITION
(1934)

This postcard was issued sometime in 1934 to highlight the fact that under the terms of the Versailles Treaty (1919) Germany was still being disadvantaged by the fact that the victorious powers had 3,600 heavy guns compared to Germany's total lack of heavy artillery. The card was designed to appeal to Germans' sense of unfairness that the treaty was still holding Germany back, even 15 years after the end of the war.

WER BRAUCHT SICHERHEIT IM SÜDOSTEN

I don't know for sure that this postcard was issued in 1934 however I have seen exactly the same design but published by Verlag Deutscher Lichtbilddienst G.m.b.h of Berlin, but without the "Ausstelling Die Front" text, and that card was cancelled 14th May 1934.

The following postcard inscribed "Who needs Security in the Southeast" depicts the relative strengths of the German, Polish and Czechoslovakian forces prior to the invasion of the Sudetenland. This was all part of the Nazi plan to convince the people of the need for Germany to resolve the difficulties with its southern and eastern neighbours.

2nd REICHSBAUERNSTADT
(11th-18th Sep 1934)

The second Reichsbauernstadt was held in Goslar from 11th to 18th Sep 1934 (and then annually in 1935, 1936 and 1938. In 1937 it was cancelled because of foot and mouth disease, and in 1939 they were cancelled indefinitely due to the outbreak of the Second World War). This event was a harvest festival known for its peasant, provincial feel and consisted of torchlight parades and Nazi Party members taking the oath of allegiance to Hitler and the Nazi Party.

This postcard depicts a peasant farmer with a large swastika flag in the background, indicating the close ties the party wanted to foster between the peasants and the Nazi regime. The emblem in the bottom right-hand bears the inscription "Blut und Boden" - 'Blood and Soil', a popular Nazi Party slogan.
