OFFICIAL POSTCARDS
1934
The 1934 postcard page has now been split into four separate pages as it was beginning to get unwieldy. All 1934 Official postcards are now on this page. Official postcards are cards that were issued by the Reich’s post office, had pre-printed (indicia) stamps and were widely available throughout German towns and cities.
Secondly Printed to Private Order postcards are postcards that were generally issued by entities that were advertising an event or commemorating an anniversary, and also had pre-printed stamps, but were not widely available throughout Germany (most were only available at the event they were commemorating).
Thirdly Other postcards are postcards that fall into the same general category as printed to private order however they do not have pre-printed stamps.
Finally, Miscellaneous postcards is where you will find postcards that do not fit into the first three categories (i.e. they are not official, they do not have pre-printed stamps, and they do not commemorate an event).

GET TO KNOW GERMANY
Jan to Jun 1934. These postcards were issued from Jan to Jun 1934 and there were 9 postcards in the complete set (Arendsee, Segelboote, Seesteg Oben, Kurhaus Rechts, Friedrichroda, Bad Ilmenau, Bad Mergentheim, Pretzsch and Rossleben). They depict an indicia 6Rpf Hindenburg Medallion stamp, and they are dark green on a cream background. These stamps have a long tailed 'e' in the word "Postkarte" and there are no code numbers printed on these postcards.

GET TO KNOW GERMANY
Mar to Jun 1934. These postcards were issued between March and Jun 1934 and there were 144 postcards in the complete set. They depict an indicia 6Rpf Hindenburg Medallion stamp, and they are dark green on a cream background. These stamps have a short tailed 'e' in the word "Postkarte" and there are no code numbers printed on these postcards.

HINDENBURG MEMORIAL ISSUE
Two postcards were issued in 1934 to commemorate the death of Paul von Hindenburg. The first has a 5Rpf pre-printed stamp (Michel 234) and the second has a darker 6Rpf stamp P235. P234 exists in two variants: P234a is on light to cream-coloured card and P234b is on darker card.

HINDENBURG MEMORIAL ISSUE
Two postcards were issued in 1934 to commemorate the death of Paul von Hindenburg. The first has a 5Rpf pre-printed stamp P234 and the second has a darker 6Rpf stamp (Michel 235). P235 exists in two variants: P235a is on light to cream-coloured card and P235b is on darker card.

Picture postcards with color change of the postage and preprint. These picture postcards are now dark brown rather than the previous green. There are a total of 1218 different pictures as well as a number with a "DRUCKPROBE" imprint.

1st ANNIV of SEIZURE of POWER
Postcard P250 was issued to commemorate the 1st Anniversary of Adolf Hitler becoming Chancellor of Germany on 30th Jan 1933. The picture features a Nazi Party rally beneath the Brandenburger Tor in Berlin and is inscribed "Deutschland, Deutschland über Alles!" ("Germany, Germany above everything!") the German National Anthem since 1922. The anthem is officially called 'Das Lied der Deutschen' or 'The Song of the Germans'.
The 6Rpf indicia stamp depicts Adolf Hitler and the old Chancellor von Hindenburg. Hitler is pictured with Hindenburg in order to generate a sense of legitimacy and a connection to the past as Hindenburg was a well-respected and admired national hero. For the first few years of the Nazi regime this was a constant theme (it can also be seen on propaganda posters), utilising Hindenburg to legitimise the regime, however as the Nazi stranglehold began to tighten and the regime grew more secure this link to the past was dropped (for example the Hindenburg stamps of 1934 were later replaced by very similar Hitler portrait stamps in 1941).

NATIONAL DAY OF WORK
Issued on 30th April 1934 and valid until 31st December 1934. This postcard has a brown 6Rpf indicia stamp and is printed brown on a cream background. The inscription reads "Nationaler Feiertag 1934".
Introduced in 1933 as "Feiertag der nationalen Arbeit", this May 1st National holiday was re-named 'Nationaler Feiertag des Deutschen Volk’s' in 1934.

NAZI PARTY RALLY
This was the 6th Party Congress (held from September 5th to 10th, 1934) and was attended by about 700,000 Nazi Party supporters. Initially it did not have a theme. Later it was labelled the "Rally of Unity and Strength" (Reichsparteitag der Einheit und Stärke), "Rally of Power" (Reichsparteitag der Macht), or "Rally of Will" (Reichsparteitag des Willens). The Leni Riefenstahl film 'Triumph des Willens' was made at this rally. In addition, this rally was particularly notable due to Albert Speer's Cathedral of light: 152 searchlights that cast vertical beams into the sky around the Zeppelin Field to symbolise the walls of a building.

GERMAN WELFARE
Issued 5th Nov 1934. This plain postcard features a pre-printed, green, 6Rpf stamp with 4Rpf being a donation to the Welfare Fund for a total cost of 10Rpf. The stamp shows an SA member with a large black eagle and swastika in the background. The postcard was valid until 31st Dec 1935.

WINTER RELIEF FUND
Issued 29th Dec 1934 to raise money for the Winter Relief Fund this series of double postcards was issued to raise money for the Winter Relief Lottery in 1934/1935. There are one hundred double cards (200 images). Not all the cards have a pre-printed stamp, in fact most do not, and it was potluck whether the buyer of the card managed to get one that was pre-paid. Although these were double cards, they were not intended to be used that way, they were supposed to be separated and used individually.
